Pitt to Host Filmmaker Michealene Cristini Risley for March 31 Screening of Tapestries of Hope
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will welcome filmmaker Michealene Cristini Risley for a screening of her film Tapestries of Hope (2009) at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Frick Fine Arts Building, Room 125, Schenley Drive, Oakland. The documentary exposes a myth that is widespread in Zimbabwe that sex with virgins cures men of HIV/AIDS. The myth is believed to contribute to a startling number of rapes each year. The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is requested at gspiapf@pitt.edu or 412-648-1336.
A discussion with Risley will follow the screening.
The event is sponsored by Pitt’s Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership and the Ford Institute for Human Security within the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
