Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series Features Lydia Davis April 7
PITTSBURGH—The Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series will host a free public lecture by acclaimed fiction writer and translator Lydia Davis at 8:30 p.m. April 7 in the University of Pittsburgh Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.
Davis is the author of short stories and a novel, including the celebrated short story collection Break It Down: Stories (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2008). Other notable works include The End of the Story: A Novel (Picador, 2004) and Almost No Memory: Stories (Picador, 2001). Her short stories are often brief, some as short as two sentences.
A noted translator of French literature into English, Davis most recently has translated Madame Bovary (Viking Adult, 2010).
In 2003, Davis was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow, for which the MacArthur Foundation noted that “Davis grants readers a glimpse of life’s previously invisible details, revealing new sources of philosophical insights and beauty.”
