PITTSBURGH—Academic papers and book reviews are being solicited for Excellence in Higher Education (EHE)—a new e-journal published by Pitt’s University Library System (ULS), an international leader in Open Access digital publishing.

EHE (http://ehe.pitt.edu) is the first English-language academic journal in the field of higher education in Indonesia and is supported by the Consortium of Indonesian Universities-Pittsburgh, which works to form global, national, and regional partnerships to meet national education-reform mandates. Pitt professor of education John C. Weidman and Irwan Nasution, an education professor at the State Institute of Islamic Studies in North Sumatra, Indonesia, are coeditors-in-chief, and W. James Jacob, director of Pitt’s Institute for International Studies in Education, and Jeffrey Milligan, a professor of education at Florida State University, serve as associate editors.

EHE will focus on higher-education management, active learning, and interdisciplinary research. Scholars from all disciplines of education research are encouraged to submit content. EHE is published by the ULS as part of its D-Scribe Digital Publishing Program. A print version of the journal is printed in Indonesia. EHE was established in 2010 with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development as part of its Decentralized Basic Education 2 Project in Indonesia. Much of EHE’s content will be dedicated to higher-education issues in Indonesia, and worldwide.

Pitt’s E-Journal Publishing Program is part of ULS’ D- Scribe Digital Publishing Program. The ULS is the 23rd-largest academic library system within the United States. Under the administration of the Hillman University Librarian and ULS director, it includes 20 libraries and collections and holds more than 6.2 million volumes and world-class specialized collections, among them the Archive of Scientific Philosophy and the Archives of Industrial Society, as well as major foreign-language materials from around the world totaling 1.4 million volumes.
