Pitt’s Katz School of Business and College of Business Administration Named Among Top ‘Military Friendly’ Schools for Third Consecutive Year

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration (CBA) has been named one of the most military-friendly schools in the nation on a list released today by G.I. Jobs, a national magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. This is the third year the Katz School and CBA have earned this honor.

The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.

"We are honored to be included in the list of military-friendly schools,” Katz School Dean John T. Delaney said. “We work hard to meet the needs of service men and woman who are transitioning from their military careers into the business world. They bring unique leadership and management skills to the classroom."

Among those efforts, the Katz School waives the application fee for active U.S. military personnel and reimburses military students who choose to take GMAT preparatory courses once they have matriculated into one of the MBA programs. CBA waives the application fee for veterans applying to the school. Additionally, Katz offers multiple scholarships for students who have served in the military. Service men and women admitted to the full-time MBA program are automatically considered for an award.

This year’s ranking includes feedback from student veterans in an effort to provide prospective military students with insight into the student-veteran experience at a particular institution.  

“The Military Friendly Schools list is the go-to resource for prospective student veterans searching for schools that provide the right overall experience,” said   Michael Dakduk, executive director for the Student Veterans of America, a national nonprofit organization comprised of student veterans groups on college campuses across the United States. “Nothing is more compelling than actual feedback from current student veterans.”
