MUSIC

12/2 Pitt’s Department of Music presents the Women’s Choral Ensemble Holiday Concert performing sacred and popular music for the holidays, at 8 p.m., Heinz Memorial Chapel, Fifth and Bellefield avenues, Oakland. Advance tickets are $8.50 general admission and $5 for non-Pitt students and senior citizens; they are available at www.proartstickets.org or at 412-394-3353. Tickets at the door are $15 general admission and $10 for non-Pitt students and senior citizens. The event is free for Pitt students with a valid ID.

12/2 The Emerging Legend Series presents a free performance by indie folk-pop duo Too Tall Americanos, from noon to 1 p.m., Cup & Chaucer Café, ground floor, Hillman Library, 3960 Forbes Ave., Oakland. 12/4 Pitt’s Department of Music presents the World Music Festival from noon to 4 p.m., Ballroom, William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. This free event features dancing, refreshments, and music by Pitt’s Carpathian Music Ensemble, University Gamelan Ensemble, Indian Tabla Ensemble, and African Music and Dance Ensemble. LECTURES

12/6 Economist Robert D. Reischauer, president of the Urban Institute, will present a lecture titled “This Time Really Will Be Different: Adapting to Fiscal Reality” as part of Pitt’s American Experience Distinguished Lecture Series. Dick Thornburgh, former Pennsylvania governor, U.S. attorney general and U.N. undersecretary general, will moderate, at 4 p.m., O’Hara Student Center, 4024 O’Hara St., Oakland. 12/9 Elizabeth Anderson, John Rawls Collegiate Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor at the University of Michigan, will deliver a free lecture titled “The Imperative of Integration: Race and Education” at noon at Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems, 20th floor, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. 12/4 Pitt’s Nationality Rooms Programs will host the annual Holiday Open House featuring song and dance performances by various ethnic groups as well as foods and items for purchase from the Nationality Rooms’ nearly 25 ethnic committees, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Cathedral of Learning Commons Room, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
