Pitt’s Heinz Memorial Chapel to Host Fall 2012 Concert Series
PITTSBURGH— The University of Pittsburgh’s Heinz Memorial Chapel will present a free autumn concert series, which kicks off Sept. 9 with a performance by ProMusica Pittsburgh.
Also featured in the fall concert series will be programs by other area performers and local university-affiliated musicians, among them Pitt’s PalPITTations a cappella singers, Heinz Memorial Chapel Organist John Cannon, OvreArts-The Resident Ensemble of Heinz Memorial Chapel, Carnegie Mellon Alumnus Baritone Charles LeFebvre, organist alumni of Duquesne University, the Black Orchid String Trio, and the jazz trio of Jason Kush, Ken Karsh, and Brian Stahurski.
This concert series is made possible by the administration of the Chapel and generous donations to the Chapel.
The Fall 2012 concert series schedule follows.
Sunday, Sept. 9, 3 p.m.
ProMusica Pittsburgh—featuring vocal music performed by Michael Jackson and Adele Grabowski with organ accompaniment by Martin Barstow.
Sunday, Sept. 23, 3 p.m.
Jazz Trio Concert—Saxophonist Jason Kush will be joined by two Pittsburgh greats, guitarist Ken Karsh and bassist Brian Stahurski, for a high-energy performance of original and standard jazz compositions.
Sunday, Oct. 7, 3 p.m.
Timothy LeFebvre Vocal Recital—Nationally acclaimed baritone and Carnegie Mellon University graduate Timothy LeFebvre returns home to perform a program of songs and arias.
Sunday, Oct. 21, 3 p.m.
Duquesne University Alumni Organ Recital—The music of organist-composer Charles Tournemire, who was renowned for his improvisational skill, is featured in this performance by Duquesne University alumni.
Sunday, Nov. 11, 3 p.m.
University of Pittsburgh PalPITTations—Comprising students from Pitt’s schools of the health sciences, this a cappella group will perform upbeat musical selections.
Thursday, Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m.
OvreArts-Resident Ensemble of Heinz Memorial Chapel in “A Great and Mighty Voice”—Hear a choir concert featuring surprise guest artists from the National Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan
Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and La Scala. A preconcert dinner is being offered at the University Club in Oakland. For more information, contact Heinz Memorial Chapel.
Sunday, Nov. 18, 3 p.m.
Black Orchid String Trio—This Pittsburgh-based string trio features violinist Jennifer Sternick, cellist Rachel Smith, and violist Amber Rogers. Sunday, Dec. 16, 3 p.m. John Cannon, Heinz Memorial Chapel Organist—Cannon will present a Christmas concert featuring music by Bach, Dupré, Tchaikovsky, and a few surprises.
