Affirmative Action Is Topic of Reed Smith Lecture by Pitt Law Dean Jan. 30 at Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems

PITTSBURGH—William M. Carter, dean and professor of law in the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law, will deliver a free public lecture at noon Jan. 30 titled “The Future of Affirmative Action.” The talk will be held at Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems, School of Social Work Conference Center, 20th floor, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

Carter specializes in constitutional law, civil rights, international human rights law, and civil litigation. Widely considered to be one of the nation’s leading authorities on the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Carter has had his articles published or slated for publication in such respected law journals as the Columbia Law Review, the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, the University of California-Davis Law Review, and the Emory Law Journal. He also has contributed to books published by Columbia University Press and Oxford University Press. Before assuming his position as dean of the Pitt School of Law in 2012, Carter was a professor in Temple University’s Beasley School of Law.

Carter received his JD magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

The Center on Race and Social Problems’ annual Reed Smith Speaker Series provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to engage in race-related discussions of mutual interest.
