Pitt to Host Virtual Town Hall Meeting on U.S.-China Relations With Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will virtually host former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright Oct. 28 as part of "China Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections,” a nationally broadcast event examining the state of relations between the United States and China.
Presented by the National Committee on United States-China Relations, the event will feature a lecture from a leading scholar on modern China, along with a live webcast and question-and-answer session with Albright, broadcast to more than 60 venues nationwide. Former Secretary Albright will respond to questions submitted by the nationwide audience.
The town hall, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 107 of the Barco Law Building, 3900 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
The town hall event will open with Yanzhong Huang of Seton Hall University and the Council on Foreign Relations presenting the lecture “In Pursuit of a Healthy China: Accomplishments, Challenges, and Implications for U.S.-China Relations."
Huang has written extensively on global health governance, health diplomacy and health security, and public health in China and East Asia. He is the coauthor of Governing Health in Contemporary China (Routledge, 2013), which looks at health care reform, government ability to address disease outbreaks, and food and drug safety in China.
Former Secretary Albright was appointed the 64th and first female U.S. Secretary of State in 1997. At the time, she was the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. In 2012, she was chosen by President Obama to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in recognition of her contributions to international peace and democracy.
