University of Pittsburgh Issues Traffic Alert for Students’ Return During “Arrival Survival” Aug. 22-26, 2016

Parts of Bigelow Boulevard, Lothrop Street, University Place, University Drive B, and Schenley Quadrangle to be closed

PITTSBURGH—Students will return to the University of Pittsburgh campus residence halls for “Arrival Survival” Aug. 22-26, prompting Pitt’s Department of Parking and Transportation Services to issue the following traffic advisory.

Forbes and Fifth Avenues in Oakland will experience heavy traffic Aug. 22-26.

Bigelow Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic between Forbes and Fifth Avenues from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22; from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23; from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24; and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. In addition, that section of Bigelow will close at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, and remain closed until 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.

Lothrop Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 24-27.

University Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22; from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23; from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24; and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25-26.

The Schenley Quadrangle, which is accessible from Fifth Avenue, will be closed to all vehicular traffic Aug. 19-28.

Ruskin Avenue will experience heavy traffic Aug. 25-27, and parking meters on Ruskin Avenue will be restricted to individuals moving into Ruskin Hall.

Allequippa Street will experience heavy traffic during this period as well, and Pitt Police will be stationed at the corner of Allequippa Street and University Drive to direct traffic.

Heavy traffic around Pitt’s campus is expected on Aug. 24 as a result of Freshman Convocation at the Petersen Events Center at 3 p.m.
