The Princeton Review Names Pitt Among “Colleges That Create Futures”

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh is one of 50 institutions profiled in The Princeton Review’s “Colleges That Create Futures: 50 Schools That Launch Careers By Going Beyond the Classroom.”

“All 50 of the colleges showcased in this book offer superb academics,” says Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor in chief and author of “Colleges That Create Futures.”

“But what makes them stand out are the programs and services they offer outside the classroom, which offer their students real-world experience, collaborative opportunities with faculty and networking opportunities with alumni, allowing them to graduate with outstanding job opportunities or acceptance to post-graduate studies at first-rate institutions.”

The book’s profile on Pitt recognizes the following:

• Pitt’s Living Learning Communities, specialized environments in place at more than 20 residence halls and built on a particular theme, such as the Global Village, Women Lead or Service to Others

• Pitt’s Outside the Classroom Curriculum, which helps students gain a competitive edge for their post-college life

• Pitt’s Study Abroad programs, including the Plus3 program, which offers business and engineering students opportunities to examine issues in world markets, be it the smartphone industry in China or coffee in Costa Rica; and Pitt MAP, in which students examine broad topics across three continents over a whole semester

• Programs that allow Pitt students to prepare for graduate school, such as the University Honors College and the Freshman Guarantee

Inclusion in the guide is based on The Princeton Review’s survey of 14,000 current students and interviews with 232 current administrators, faculty members and alumni conducted between 2015 and 2017.

The book profiles around 2 percent of America’s approximately 3,000 four-year colleges. The 50 schools are not ranked but rather are listed in alphabetical order. Pitt also was listed in the book’s inaugural 2015 edition.
