Pitt's Center for International Legal Education to Host Symposium Celebrating 25th Anniversary of U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh School of Law's Center for International Legal Education (CILE) and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) will host a symposium Nov. 4-5 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Sales Convention, which created the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). The symposium will be held in the University's Barco Law Building, Teplitz Moot Memorial Court Room, 3900 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
The Pittsburgh conference, titled The CISG and the Business Lawyer: The UNCITRAL Digest as a Contract Drafting Tool, is the only such historic commemoration to take place in the United States; other events have been held in Austria, Egypt, and Singapore. During the course of the conference, Pittsburgh will be welcoming internationally recognized experts on this subject.
Pitt's CILE symposium will focus on such general and specific contract drafting issues as choosing the CISG or not, business economics of drafting for the CISG, formation, performance, and breach and remedies. The topic for the closing panel discussion is reflections on the UNCITRAL Digest and its importance for uniformity in the interpretation and application of the CISG for contract drafting purposes.
Ronald Brand, Pitt professor of law and director of CILE, is conference convener.
The conference has been approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board (CLE) for up to 12 hours of CLE credit. For more information, call 412-648-7023 or e-mail clark@law.pitt.edu.
