University of Pittsburgh Book Center to Host Meet and Speak With Author Thomas Brooks Oct. 20
PITTSBURGH-Author and University of Pittsburgh alumnus Thomas Brooks will take part in a Meet and Speak session and will sign copies of his new book, A Wealth of Family: An Adopted Son's International Quest for Heritage, Reunion, and Enrichment (Alpha Multimedia, Inc., 2006). The event takes place at noon Oct. 20 in Pitt's Book Center, 4000 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
Growing up as the only child of a single mother, Brooks struggled against racial stereotypes and the pressures of poverty in inner-city Pittsburgh. When he was 11 years old, his mother told him that he had been adopted. This revelation eventually led him on a journey across three continents to discover his roots; that journey is chronicled in A Wealth of Family.
Brooks earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1988 at Pitt. He is managing director of Alpha Multimedia, Inc., a specialized marketing, public relations, and book publishing firm. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1992.
This free, public event is sponsored by Pitt's Book Center and the School of Engineering, as well as by Alpha Multimedia, Inc. For more information, call 412-648-1453.
