Pitt's Technology Leadership Institute Offers High School Students Underrepresented in Computer Science Field a Jump Start
PITTSBURGH-High school students from groups underrepresented in the computer science field can get a head start this summer by participating in the University of Pittsburgh Technology Leadership Institute (TLI), to be held from June 25 to Aug. 2 on Pitt's campus. This is the second year for the TLI, which was founded to spur an interest in and awareness of computer science in students largely underrepresented in the field.
The six-week summer institute-which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays-trains students intensively in mathematics and computer science. In addition to the more than 90 hours of course work, the program will host workshops on achieving academic and career success. Participants will go on information-technology-related field trips and meet with computer science faculty members and graduate students. Pitt's School of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Computer Science sponsor the program with support from the School of Information Sciences.
Interested students should apply online at www.cs.pitt.edu/tli by May 1. Full and partial scholarships are available for all students.
For more information, contact TLI director Tonya Groover at 412-624-4765 or trg4@cs.pitt.edu.
