United Nations Food and Agricultural Legal Advisor to Speak at Pitt April 14
PITTSBURGH-Victor P. Mosoti, special legal advisor in the cabinet of the director-general for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, will present the 17th annual McLean Lecture on World Law at 7 p.m. April 14 in the University of Pittsburgh Barco Law Building, Teplitz Moot Courtroom, 3900 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
The lecture, "Biofueling Our Future: Balancing Food and Fuel in a Global Economy," will focus on new strategies in trade and sustainable development for a changing world market.
Starting his legal career as an assistant professor at Moi University in Kenya in 1998, Mosoti has since worked at the World Trade Organization and International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2003, he has been with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, first as a legal officer and currently as a legal advisor.
Mosoti received his LL.B degree from Moi University in 1998 and then went on to earn his LL.M degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 2001 and his JD degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006. He also holds certificates in French language proficiency and public policy analysis from Université René Descartes Paris-V and Harvard University, respectively.
The event is jointly sponsored by the Pitt Law's Center for International Legal Education and the Global Solutions Education Fund, Pittsburgh. It is free and open to the public with a reception following the lecture.
The McLean Lecture on World Law honors the memory and contributions of Maclean W. McLean, a founder, executive director, and executive vice president of the Pittsburgh World Federalist Association chapter, now Global Solutions Education Fund, Pittsburgh.
