PITT RISES IN U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT'S "BEST COLLEGES" RANKINGS
PITTSBURGH—In the just-issued rankings for the 2004 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges," the University of Pittsburgh has risen in the category "The Top 50 Public National Universities-Doctoral" to 27th place, tied with Indiana University-Bloomington, Texas A&M University-College Station, the University of California-Santa Cruz, and the University of Delaware. For this category, U.S. News ranked Pitt against 161 peer public institutions.
In last year's U.S. News rankings, Pitt was tied for 31st place in this category, and in the prior year it was tied for 39th place.
In the category "Best [Undergraduate]Business Programs ," Pitt tied for 20th place among doctorate-granting public universities and colleges, together with the University of Iowa and Texas A&M University; last year Pitt tied for 21st place among public institutions in this category. And in the category "Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs," Pitt tied for 28th place among doctorate-granting public universities and colleges, together with the Colorado School of Mines, Rutgers University-New Brunswick, the University of California-Irvine, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and the University of Missouri-Rolla; last year it tied for 36th place among public institutions in this category.
In addition, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown placed third in the North in the category "The Top Public Comprehensive Colleges," up from fourth place last year.
