Pitt to Celebrate Indian Independence Day Aug. 15
PITTSBURGH—The Indian Nationality Room Committee will celebrate Indian Independence Day with a free public festival from noon until 4 p.m. Aug. 15 in the University of Pittsburgh Cathedral of Learning Commons Room in Oakland.
The festival will feature Indian music and regional Indian foods. Entertainment will include performances by children trained in classical Indian and folk dancing, henna painting of hands, and a marketplace where visitors can purchase clothing, music tapes, flags, costume jewelry, enamel boxes, and other artifacts.
Seven winners, ages eight to 16, of the Swami Vivekananda essay contest will be announced and honored.
