Pitt's Allegheny Observatory to Hold an Open House Oct. 22
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Observatory, located at 159 Riverview Ave. in Riverview Park, Pittsburgh, will hold its annual open house from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 22, with tours conducted in half-hour increments. The event is free, but reservations are required and can be made by calling 412-321-2400. The deadline for reservations is Oct. 8.
The open house is the only night of the year when the observatory's primary research instrument, the 30-inch Thaw Refractor telescope, is available to the public for viewing the night sky. Visitors also can take a self-guided tour of the facility. In addition, members of the Amateur Astronomer's Association of Pittsburgh will set up telescopes on the observatory's front lawn for public use.
