Rhythm and Blues Vocalist Jessica Lee to Open New Heinz Chapel Pittsburgh Artists Series Sept. 24
PITTSBURGH—Jessica Lee, one of Pittsburgh's most prominent blues-influenced artists, will open the new Pittsburgh Artist Series, which will encompass a broad spectrum of musical experiences, at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the University of Pittsburgh Heinz Memorial Chapel, Bellefield Avenue, Oakland.
Lee's formal musical training began at age five with the study of classical piano and music theory. This served as a solid foundation and helped her discover her love of singing. She studied classical vocal technique and theory at Duke University in North Carolina and continues to study in private studios throughout the country. Her mentors include jazz saxophonist Paul Jeffrey and guitarist Tony Janflone Sr.
Lee's performances have ranged from grade school mass services, madrigal choirs and civic operetta events to professional endeavors. She has sung musical theater, cabaret, folk, classical, gospel, soul, jazz, and blues, in churches, shows, and clubs throughout the United States. In addition, she has performed as a soloist on various artists' recording projects and continues to cowrite and record original compositions.
The Pittsburgh Artist Series will feature additional concerts throughout the season, including the popular Valentine's Concert with Daphne Alderson, a guitar duo program, a string quartet concert, and a flute-and-piano recital.
Both season subscriptions and individual tickets may be purchased for the Pittsburgh Artists Series. The season subscription is $50. Separately, the Valentine's Concerti is $20; all other concerts are $12 per ticket.
