PITT TEACHER RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING FRENCH
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 10 -- Bonnie Adair-Hauck, University of Pittsburgh instructor, Mt. Lebanon High School graduate and Wexford resident, received the 1998 National Award for Excellence in Teaching French from the American Association of Teachers of French.
Presently teaching graduate courses in foreign language theory and methodology at Pitt, Adair-Hauck taught elementary through advanced-level French courses at La Roche College. She served as the chair of La Roche's Humanities Division from 1984 to 1988.
In the past few years Adair-Hauck, who received her Ph.D. from Pitt, has concentrated her efforts on foreign language teaching and research. Her research interests include a story-based approach to language learning, strategies for assessing second language development, and the integration of technology into the second language curriculum. She has published articles in national and international journals.
Adair-Hauck has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Pennsylvania Humanities Council, and the U.S. Department of Education. She helped to design French immersion programs which include a French summer camp for elementary language learners. She has studied at Université de Dijon, Université Laval, and Université Catholique de L'Ouest, Angers, France.

Adair-Hauck is working to ensure that the Pennsylvania Department of Education continues to require that all Pennsylvania students graduate from high school with at least a survival level of oral proficiency in a second language.
Adair-Hauck and her husband Ron Hauck reside in Wexford with their three children. Her parents are James and Rita Adair of Osage Road in
Mt. Lebanon.
