PITT PANEL TO ADDRESS "CRIME CONTROL BEYOND 2000"
PITTSBURGH, March 11 -- A distinguished panel of educators and professionals in the field of criminal justice will discuss "Crime Control
Beyond 2000," 5 - 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, in Room 2K56 of the Forbes Quadrangle Building, on the University of Pittsburgh's Oakland campus.
Sponsored by Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) and the college of General Studies (CGS), this colloquium also will look at the growing importance of graduate education in the criminal justice arena.
Moderated by GSPIA Associate Professor Lee Weinberg, the panelists and their topics include:
• The Honorable David Cercone, judge, Criminal Division, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas
What are some of the new efforts or ideas on the horizon for dealing with criminal offenders?
• John Burkoff, professor, School of Law, University of Pittsburgh
What is the role of civilians in oversight of police agencies? Have civilian review boards worked?
• Michael Gressem, chief of police, Clairton, PA
What are the latest techniques used by police in the field for detection and apprehension of criminals?
• John Karns, GSPIA associate professor
How can education improve the quality of policing and police-community relations?
