Polish National Bank President to Speak at Pitt’s Katz Graduate School of Business Executive MBA Graduation July 30

PITTSBURGH— Former Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka, president of the National Bank of Poland, will be the keynote speaker at the University of Pittsburgh’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business Executive MBA Worldwide and MBA graduation ceremony.
The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30, in the third-floor ballroom of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, 4141 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
Belka served as prime minister of Poland in 2004-05. Prior to that, in 1997 and in 2001-02, he held the position of deputy prime minister and minister of finance.
As chair of the Council for International Coordination for Iraq in 2003, Belka helped direct Iraq’s postwar economy; he also served in 2004 as the council’s director of economic policy. In addition, he worked in the United Nations as executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe from 2005 to 2009 and as director of the European Department at the International Monetary Fund from 2008 to 2010.
Belka has published more than 100 scientific papers related primarily to the theory of money and anti-inflation policy in developing countries. He specializes in applied economics and contemporary economic thought.
A member of the Katz Executive MBA Worldwide’s European Board of Advisors, Belka earned an MA and PhD in economics at the University of Lódz.
