New Pitt E-Journal, Health, Culture and Society, Launched Today, Seeks Academic Manuscripts
PITTSBURGH—Academic manuscripts are being solicited for Health, Culture and Society—a new e-journal just launched by the University of Pittsburgh’s University Library System (ULS), a national leader in Open Access digital publishing.
Health, Culture and Society, which publishes its inaugural issue today at http://hcs.pitt.edu, is devoted to the medical humanities and the social history of health. It will promote critical studies, disseminate contemporary research, and act as an international podium for the exchange of new ideas, strategies, and practices. The journal, to be published three times annually, will present an interdisciplinary approach to ideas that reflect a modern understanding of health and how it is shaped by social and cultural factors.
Health, Culture and Society was founded by senior editor David Reggio, a researcher at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University in London and at the Universidade Comunitária da Região de Chapecó in Brazil. He is collaborating with an international editorial board of researchers working in the fields of health politics, social progress, and cultural debate.
Pitt’s E-Journal Publishing Program is part of ULS’ D-Scribe Digital Publishing Program. The ULS is the 23rd-largest academic library system within the United States. Under the administration of the Hillman University Librarian and ULS director, it includes 21 libraries and holds more than 6.2 million volumes and world-class specialized collections, among them the Archive of Scientific Philosophy and the Archives of Industrial Society, as well as major foreign-language materials totaling 1.4 million volumes. The ULS offers state-of-the-art facilities and services, with innovative digital library collections and capabilities.
