U.S. News & World Report Places Pitt Among the Top 5 Percent of Global Universities
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh maintains its no. 47 ranking on U.S. News & World Report’s new list of the Best Global Universities. This year, the rankings evaluated the top 1,000 universities in 65 countries, up from 750 institutions in previous years.
Pitt is tied with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a global score of 75.6.
These rankings focus on academic research, unlike the Best Colleges list, which emphasizes the quality of undergraduate education and graduation rates.
Pitt ranked no. 32 for publications, no. 26 for total citations, no. 26 for number of highly cited publications, and no. 29 for number of highly cited papers.
Pitt ranks high in a number of subjects, including no. 38 (tie) for arts and humanities, no. 43 (tie) for biology and biochemistry, no. 42 for immunology, no. 42 (tie) for social sciences and public health, no. 23 for pharmacology and toxicology, no. 17 for clinical medicine, and no. 9 (tie) for psychiatry/psychology.
Harvard University sits at the top of the Best Global Universities list with an overall score of 100, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; and California Institute of Technology. It is the first time that U.S. schools have claimed the top five spots.
