PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Arthur G. Ramicone has announced his retirement, effective in August 2018, after a 30-year career at Pitt.
Ramicone is responsible for 14 departments, ranging from payroll and risk management to treasury and investments. His extensive accomplishments include numerous systems implementations and upgrades over the years that generated significant cost savings for the University. He also restructured the finance units to enhance cooperation and strengthen reporting and analysis capabilities. His leadership also helped Pitt to earn strong bond ratings in 2017 – Aa1 by Moody’s and AA+ by Standard and Poor’s.
“In the last 30 years, Art has made lasting contributions to the strength of this University,” said Pitt Chancellor Patrick Gallagher. “He is a leader known for his honesty, integrity and sense of humor — and for bringing great teams together to tackle the right challenges. As a result, the University finds itself in an enviable position of exceptional financial strength.”
Ramicone began his career at Pitt in 1988 as a manager of internal audit. During the next three decades, he rose through the ranks and became chief financial officer in 2010. His responsibilities were expanded in 2015 when he was appointed to also serve as senior vice chancellor.
Before coming to Pitt, Ramicone was a certified public accountant with what is now Deloitte & Touche LLP. He earned both his undergraduate degree and MBA at Pennsylvania State University.
A search will be conducted for the chief financial officer position.
